The practice of Reflexology is a relatively recent development in the Western world. It has Eastern origins, sharing its development with a number of different and ancient cultures. It was transported across the world, arriving in the west in the early part of the 20th century. It is now a very popular complementary therapy.
During treatment, pressure is applied to different reflex points on and in the feet that represent corresponding areas and systems of the body. The consequent stimulation of these systems is thought to help the body to attain its natural harmony, relieve stress and tension, and create physical and emotional balance.
Reflexology can be beneficial for many conditions, particularly those hormonal in nature – this includes providing help with conception, pregnancy and childbirth. It is also a very relaxing treatment. A treatment will always be tailored to meet the needs of the individual.
